Chief minister Eknath Shinde said reservation to Marathas will be given according to the terms of law after presenting a report during the special assembly session
Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange criticised Maharashtra government s separate reservation proposal for Marathas, demanding OBC category quota instead. He mentions the draft notification on blood relatives of Kunbi Marathas, state legislature s special session, and criticizes Minister Chhagan Bhujbal. Jarange has been on multiple hunger strikes for Maratha community inclusion.
The Maharashtra assembly passed a bill providing 10% reservations to the Maratha community, exceeding the Supreme Court s 50% quota limit. Maratha leader Manoj Jarange Patil demanded inclusion in the OBC category, while the opposition criticized the bill. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde defended the bill based on the Maratha community s backwardness.
Jarange was speaking to reporters at his native Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district on the seventh day of his indefinite fast to press for the demand for inclusion of the Maratha community into the Other Backward Class (OBC) category.
