The Lagos State government has opened the dual carriageway flyover and five other roads at Pen Cinema in the Agege area of the state to residents for use.
Speaking at the commissioning of the roads on Friday, the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noted that the government was aware of the challenges residents in the area faced.
According to him, residents and road users along the axis have clamoured for a solution to the suffocating nature of the perennial gridlock occasioned by the huge human and vehicular traffic, flowing through the intersection.

Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, officially inaugurated the 1.4km Pen Cinema flyover bridge in Agege Local Government Area of the state, declaring that the iconic project, which came into existence exactly 648 days after his administration took over office, was a strong message of “our resolve to deliver well-articulated programmes and projects for the use of all Lagosians.”
This was just as the governor, while speaking, amid profound excitement and cheers by the residents, said the discomfort suffered by motorists along the axis had moved his administration to swiftly complete the project.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will open the Agege-Pen Cinema Bridge to vehicular movement on Friday (today), The PUNCH has learnt.
A top government official, who chose to remain anonymous, told our correspondent on Thursday that the much-awaited 1.7 kilometre-long bridge would be commissioned.
While inspecting the construction works at the bridge last December, Sanwo-Olu had said the bridge would be ready by February 2021.
When asked of the status of the bridge on Thursday, the top government official said, “The governor will commission the bridge on Friday,” adding that the contractors were through with construction works.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sanwo-Olu said that the flyover would reduce travel time and save man-hour that would have been otherwise lost to traffic on the road. x
He said it would provide better riding surface, leading to reduced maintenance cost; boost interconnectivity and generally make life more meaningful to commuters in the state.
According to him, government will prioritise continuation of strategic ongoing roads and link bridges as well as development of new roads.
”One of the most critical challenges being experienced on a daily basis by residents/road users along the Agege Pen Cinema area over the years is the heavy traffic volume occasioned by the geometric increase in traffic.
