On Friday, March 5, 2021, it was the turn of Agege, a town renowned for trade and commerce, to welcome the âGreater Lagosâ train of the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu administration as a new dawn was heralded in the town.
On that day, the long-sought relief from choking vehicular gridlocks finally came the way of residents in the axis as Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the Pen Cinema Bridge and five major road networks in the area.
Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was a special guest at the event, described the project as âneeded catalystâ for the resuscitation of economic activities on the axis.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, said the Agege-Pen Cinema Bridge was at 20% completion when he took over the wheel of governance from his predecessor, Akinwumi Ambode, in May 2019.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that Ambode, who started the 1.4 kilometre-long bridge in 2017, was conspicuously absent when Sanwo-Olu; All Progressives Congress stalwart, Bola Tinubu; and other prominent politicians inaugurated the Agege-Pen Cinema Bridge on Friday.
Ambode lost his re-election bid in 2019 due to intra-party wrangling in the APC within the state. Ambode has not also been seen at any state function with Sanwo-Olu or Tinubu since he exited government in May 2019.

Ex-Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, was conspicuously absent as his successor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; All Progressives Congress stalwart, Bola Tinubu; and other prominent politicians inaugurated the Agege-Pen Cinema Bridge on Friday.
Also at the event include Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa; monarchs, market leaders, and members of the Agege community.
The 1.4 kilometre-long bridge was started by the Ambode administration in 2017 but could not be completed by the administration as the former governor lost his re-election bid in 2019 due to intra-party wrangling in the APC within the state.

Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, officially inaugurated the 1.4km Pen Cinema flyover bridge in Agege Local Government Area of the state, declaring that the iconic project, which came into existence exactly 648 days after his administration took over office, was a strong message of “our resolve to deliver well-articulated programmes and projects for the use of all Lagosians.”
This was just as the governor, while speaking, amid profound excitement and cheers by the residents, said the discomfort suffered by motorists along the axis had moved his administration to swiftly complete the project.
