Soldiers reportedly lead herdsmen into Ogun communities, Senator reacts

Daily Post Nigeria Published Traditional rulers in Yewa North Local Government area of Ogun State have alleged that some men in military uniform led Fulani herdsmen into their communities, forcing them to accept the fact that cows will continue to graze on their farms. The monarchs said the soldiers flogged their subjects who tried to explain that the herders and their animals destroy farms, causing unnecessary clashes in their communities. The monarchs are the Oniggua of Iggua, Oba Micheal Dosumu; the Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi; and the Alademeso of Igan Alade, Oba Gabriel Olalowo. They were said to have, on January 7, forwarded a petition to the Brigade Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Oba Darasimi Residents and some monarchs of Ketu-speaking villages in Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State have lamented that they were brutalised by soldiers who escorted herdsmen to graze in their communities. In separate interviews with The Nation, the residents narrated that the soldiers, numbering about 10, flogged them for daring to prevent the herders from grazing. It was learnt that one of the residents, identified simply as Mulero, was beaten mercilessly, leaving him with serious injuries, for insisting that the herdsmen would not be allowed to graze. It was also gathered that traditional rulers were beaten after they were forced to convoke a meeting.
