Nigerians on social media have expressed outrage at the news of the brutality suffered by some villages in Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State, in the hands of soldiers who escorted some herdsmen to graze in their community.
The Nation had reported that the soldiers, numbering ten, had escorted some herdsmen on a mission to intimidate the villagers who had resisted an attempt by the herders to graze their cattle in the community due to the alleged destruction of farms and the repeated attacks and killing of farmers by the herdsmen.
The herdsmen who had earlier bowed to the resistance returned about 2 pm on December 19, 2020, with soldiers from the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta.

Ogun State government, on Saturday, assured all residents of the state of adequate security, and that the reported case of soldiers escorting herdsmen to attack some villagers was being investigated.
Kunle Somorin, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, gave the assurance while reacting to a report that soldiers from the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, escorted some Fulani herders to a community in Yewa South Local Government, to destroy their farmlands and molest farmers.
According to him, it was reported that “10 soldiers escorted some herdsmen to intimidate the villagers after they resisted an attempt by the herders to graze their cattle in the community.

Residents and some monarchs of Ketu-speaking villages in Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State have lamented that they were brutalised by soldiers who escorted herdsmen to graze in their communities.
In separate interviews with The Nation, the residents narrated that the soldiers, numbering about 10, flogged them for daring to prevent the herders from grazing.
It was learnt that one of the residents, identified simply as Mulero, was beaten mercilessly, leaving him with serious injuries, for insisting that the herdsmen would not be allowed to graze.
It was also gathered that traditional rulers were beaten after they were forced to convoke a meeting.
