Rise in these overnight hours. There are hundreds of people waiting to be rescued. Many of the roads andburied in. One of the most powerful pictures weve seen, this teenage girl freed from the mud. The community hit hardest, monteci montecito, the upscale enclave, with vegetation burned away, the mud pouring through town, even across highway 101. Cheryl hurd is with us with the latest. Reporter the mudslides happened in a region where a few weeks ago, rain was needed to try to put out the worst wildfire in california history. Teams of engineers knew that rain could cause mudslides in the burnedout area. But no one could predict this type of devastation. Tonight, bulldozers are scraping away mud in the streets of Santa Barbara county. Trees uprooted, a landslide pushing homes off their foundation. Survivors in disbelief. I looked outside. There was an orange sky. I went out and saw an explosive fire. Started videoing it. Reporter by helicopter, rescue teams are doing everything they can
