O’Brien County, Iowa A Sutherland man who allegedly led law enforcement officers from two counties on a high speed chase after striking an Osceola County Deputy’s patrol vehicle back on December 13th, has pled Not Guilty to the charges.
According to online court records, 24-year-old Bradley Tyler Kots, of Sutherland, entered a written plea in O’Brien County Magistrate Court on Tuesday. Trial on the charges has been set for 9:30 am on Tuesday, April 13th, in O’Brien County District Court.
The charges stem from an incident in which an Osceola County Deputy was investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle at a farm place just north of the Osceola/O’Brien County line on Sunday morning, December 13th. Deputies say the vehicle’s driver, who they say was Kots, attempted to hide from law enforcement, but fled when an O’Brien County Deputy pulled into the farm place. Northwest Iowa Authorities in O’Brien and Osceola Counties were hip-deep in stolen vehicles Monday morning in a case that spans both counties.
According to Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputy Lieutenant Seth Hoffman, his dispatchers received a call about 6:30 Monday morning from a rural Melvin resident who reported finding a pickup and small trailer stopped on his hog site. Hoffman says when the resident asked the pickup’s driver why he had stopped there, he was told that the vehicle’s brake lights weren’t working, but then drive away. According to Hoffman, the farmer thought the story sounded suspicious, so he called the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. During the time Hoffman was proceeding to the scene, he says the farmer had walked around to the back side of his building, where he discovered a UTV that did not belong there.

Northwest Iowa On Sunday morning the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. An Osceola County Deputy responded and the vehicle, a blue Dodge Journey fled the area, attempting to elude the Deputy, according to a press release from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the vehicle pulled into a farm place just north of the O’Brien/Osceola County line on Oak Hill Ave. in an attempt to hide from law enforcement.
An O’Brien County Deputy pulled into the farm place and the driver drove through the ditch, causing significant damage to the Journey. Deputies say the driver exited the ditch, striking the Osceola County Deputy’s vehicle.
