Former MP Rajen Gohain has resigned from his chairmanship at the Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, citing the recent delimitation process and alleged demographic changes as reasons. Gohain believes the Nagaon parliamentary seat, a BJP stronghold for many years, will now go to All India United Democratic Front President Badruddin Ajmal. Gohain said he had discussed his concerns with the Assam chief minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, but his reservations were ignored.
Last week the Election Commission of India published the Delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in X, “Today the Honorable President has approved the Delimitation Notification issued by the Election Commission of India for Assam. A significant milestone has been achieved in the history of Assam. Jai Maa Bharati Jai Aai Asom.”
Sarma while talking to media persons on Monday said, “ The President of India will notify the Delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies in the next couple of days. How we propose to work on this will be spelled out in my Independence Day speech. It will take at least two months to work on the proposals of delimitation
