An Afro-funk powerhouse, Cool Out Sun have their own formula for success Words by August Billy We chat to N’fa Jones, the Melbourne supergroup’s lead vocalist. Cool Out Sun will headline Prahran’s Chapel Off Chapel on Friday March 26. The gig is part of Chapel Summer Sessions, an event series running until the end of March. It’s also Cool Out Sun’s first full band performance since before the pandemic. The cross-cultural supergroup comprising vocalist N’fa Jones, percussionist Nui Moon and drummer/producer Sensible J will be using it as an opportunity to premiere new music.

A tribute to and celebration of the great Nigerian afrobeat drummer , innovator and musical director . Tony Allen was an Integral part of development of the genre during the formative years of Fela Kuti’s Africa 70 Band. He then went on to release groundbreaking solo and collaborative albums for the next 40 years .. that helped cement Afrobeat as a worldwide genre. And made him an international drumming icon , celebrated by audiences and musicians alike . This concert celebrates this body of work with songs from selected eras going back to his 1970’s material. As well as a special unreleased collaboration with Melbourne based percussionist and producer Zhonu ‘Nui’ Moon , that will debut at this performance.
