shots, i looked up the hill and i was sure this is where they came from. here from the top of the hill, it s not elevated enough to shoot over the top of the protesters. but, susan, you said earlier that the protesters really had already been moved off the street out of the way. that s right. at 11:10, the police who were in the line pushed them across the street and had them stand on the curb in front of this tire store right here. okay. so they were not in the street at all. they wouldn t have been in the line of fire. because from this from the elevation that we were at, if shooters were still on the street, they would have been hit. it wouldn t have been high enough to hit over the protesters and hit those police officers. but susan saw that the protesters had already been moved to these two parking lots on either side of the street. that s right. i don t think anybody could have been hurt by it. but when it happened, they all were hitting the ground and running. wh
the angle of the rooftop of the tire store which i taught might have been a possibility or the strip mall to the other side of the street, the reason i thought that originally was for the elevation. if the shooter was shooting over the top of protesters, they would have needed to be higher up than just up the street. but susan can describe again that the police had moved everybody out. from your perspective, describe where all the people were now that we re down at the bottom of the street. they had been lined up directly in front of the police officers in the grass. and at 11:10, they put their shields up and moved everybody across the street to this parking lot, to the curb there. and then they stood there for ten minutes to make sure they wouldn t leave. and then they retreated back over here to the grass again. so i was standing here. i called in to my editor and i moved away from this brick wall and when i was on the phone with her, i heard the shots. i heard boom, boom, boom, b
she s a st. louis post dispatch reporter she was on site that night and said before the shooting happened the police as the crowd was starting to dwindle, the police moved them out of the way. so some of the crowd was to my left in this parking lot. some were to the right in this parking lot over here by a tire store. and really there were no protesters in the street. so the shooter would have had a clear line of fire at the police officers without having to worry about hitting a protester in the way. as we re going down the hill towards the police station over there, the shooter may actually have been on the roof of a building. what makes you think that? well i had thought that initially, that it was a possibility simply because of the elevation. i thought that if the shooter had protesters creating a human shield between the shooting and the police that they might have needed more elevation. but susan weech, who was down
are the store will not have the tire in stock that fits your vehicle. so, you are probably going to end up buying what they have available, not necessarily what you wanted. we say, a better approach, don t wait until they are completely worn out. look at shopping for tires, when you have about one inch tread depth available on the tires. rick: that is what the quarter is good for. arthel: what do you do? it is a simple gauge, look at the top of george s head, that is 1/8 of an inch and when inspecting the tires, take a quarter, but it head-first down into a groove and if you can see his head, just touching the edge of the tread that means you have about 1/8 inch of tread left. this is good, because it still gives you enough depth to have good all-weather grip and time to do research, and, gives you time to shop around for the best price for the tire you want, and, then you can go down to the tire store and say, hey i d like
cents can hardly wait to get a little mud on the tires. arthel: if you have a good set of tires they save you money on gas and even save your life. rick: that is why it is important to know when it is time to replace them and when you do, what kind of tires could get. it can be confusing. and, consumer reports is stepping up, this month with a guide on what to look for. and consumer reports auto program leader gene peterson is joining us. good to see you, thanks for coming in. one of these has a quarter on it. why do you have a quarter on this guy. you know, what it comes down to, nowadays, there are over 300 different sizes of tires and it used to be when your tires wore out and you went to the tire store and you bought new ones, the 300 sizes out there, chances
