BENIN CITY – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has described late Nowamagbe Austin Omoigui, as an outstanding achiever in his chosen career during his lifetime.
The governor made the remarks at a funeral mass held in honour of late Omoigui, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Benin City.
Obaseki said, “Nowamagbe was a genius, an outstanding achiever in all he does. He was a fine gentleman who devoted his life to the service of humanity. He achieved all he planned to achieve.
“He is described by many in different ways but for me, I will describe him as a quintessential Edo man. He is better known as a military and a civilian historian who achieved greatness in his chosen career.”

The state COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the weekend in Benin City, saying the exercise is part of efforts by Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to contain the pandemic and ensure the health and safety of citizens.
Obi said the vaccination exercise for the teachers, which commenced on Saturday, May 8, 2021, would end on May 14, 2021, when the state would end the first phase of vaccination.

“On behalf of the Omoigui family, we are heartbroken to announce that our son, husband, father, uncle, brother, in-law, friend and muse to many, Dr. Nowamagbe Austin Omoigui, MD, FACC, pre-eminent interventional cardiologist in Columbia, South Carolina and foremost Nigerian civil-military and Benin historian, shed his earthly bonds and was called to the Lord on April 18, 2021,” the statement said.

“Preceded in passing by his beloved mother, Mrs. Grace Onaiwu Omoigui, Nowa is survived by his wife Mrs. Moira Omoigui, their children (Ikponmwosa Omoigui, Ighiwiyisi Omoigui, Iyegbekosa (Egbe) Omoigui & Izevbokun (Izzy) Omoigui, Iyare Omoigui and Iriagbonse Omoigui), his father, Surveyor Daniel Aiyanyo Omoigui and his four siblings (Dr. Sota Omoigui, Ifueko M Omoigui Okauru, Eghosa Omoigui and Nosa Omoigui).

“We are immensely grateful to God for the life he lived, the service he gave to family and country, and most importantly, his love, care for, and devotion to, his wife, children, family and friends,” the statement added.
