Bray’s Mermaid Theatre is the venue once again for the Bray One Act Drama Festival 2024, where theatre-goers can expect laughter and tears, possibly in equal measure, possibly not. Quantities rarely matter when its quality that counts, and in a month where most people languish on the couch, this little gem of a festival always manages to coax them off it to witness anything and everything from – if a glimpse of last year is any flavour – a girder on the 50th floor of a skyscraper in New York, a visit to a dog shelter, a tree of crows, a museum, a bar (there has to be a bar, surely) a recruitment agency and a world without men.
The notion of a ‘rainbow crossing’ for Bray was raised by Sinn Féin Councillor Dermot Brien, at this month’s meeting of Bray Municipal District, who said he had been approached by constituents to find a location for a permanent rainbow crossing in the area.
