One of the best linebackers in college football, the top defensive tackles in the class and the consensus best safety are all still on the board heading into the second day of the NFL draft.
The first round was dominated Thursday night by quarterbacks (five in the first 15 picks), the Southeastern Conference (12 first-rounders) and Alabama (a record-tying six players selected).
“It just makes me feel like a proud papa,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in an interview with the ESPN “College GameDay” crew.
The Tide matched a record set by Miami in 2004.
The Big 12 was shut out of the first 32 picks, as was Notre Dame, but that is likely to change quickly when Round 2 begins Friday.

Not much changed on the second night of the NFL draft. Do the letters SEC and QB seem familiar?
The SEC remained the conference of choice with 29 players selected overall, including 17 on Friday night.
Quarterbacks went in clusters, too. Not like 1-2-3 as happened in the opening round with Clemson s Trevor Lawrence to Jacksonville, BYU s Zach Wilson to the New York Jets, and North Dakota State s Trey Lance to San Francisco.

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Alabama running back Najee Harris in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, much to the dismay of the running backs don t matter/running backs don t belong in the first-round crowd. Admittedly so, yours truly is a part of said crowd, going as far as to write a piece on why Najee would be a good but not great pick in the first round.
Truth be told, I still feel that way, especially with some of the talent that fell/was available to the Steelers with pick number 24. However, the Steelers desperately needed to find crucial pieces to their puzzle when it came to running the football, and I feel as if some fans need to desperately hear this:
