Lil Kim has challenged Nicki Minaj to a Verzuz rap battle. The hip-hop veteran was asked if she would be interested in showing off her skills and pitting her back catalogue against another artist in one of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland s online face-offs during an interview on the BET Awards red carpet on Sunday. Kim insisted she was up for the challenge - and had a rival in mind. Nicki, she said, when asked if there was someone she d like to battle on the platform, adding, Me too, when her interviewer stated, I would love to see that. Kim and Minaj have fired shots at each other over the years, with the Not Tonight hitmaker releasing the song Black Friday in 2011 as a nod to the Anaconda musician s album Pink Friday.

“I think Lil’ Kim’s ‘Not Tonight.’ I think this is the best bar in female history,” Saweetie said of the
Hard Core classic. “I like when she says, ‘Tryin’ to impress me with your five G stones / I’ll give you 10 Gs, ni a, if you leave me alone.’ When I heard that, I was like…I felt it. I knew what she meant and that’s just the most boss thing someone could ever say. Like, I love that line.”

The first time I really thought about fandom was the evening of 8 July
1990. The occasion was a convention of Depeche Mode fans at Camden Palace in London. I had only been one of them myself for 10 months, since hearing Personal Jesus on Radio 1’s Singled Out
made my jaw drop,
but I had been making up for lost time. I wasn’t just busy buying up every album, 7-inch and 12-inch that I could lay my hands on, I was also transcribing Martin Gore’s lyrics into an exercise book, painting sleeve art and learning to play the simpler tracks on a Casio keyboard. I don’t recall writing poems about them but let’s not rule it out. I wanted to be a True Fan and do what I thought True fans did, which was to join a fanclub and attend a gathering of the faithful.
Saweetie is giving Lil’ Kim her flowers.
