mlanthier@ironmountaindailynews.com KINGSFORD The Kingsford City Council has agreed to contribute up to $2,500 toward replacing roof shingles on the structure at Gazebo Park. The Northwoods Garden Club, which uses the gazebo for its annual Strawberry Social fundraiser, requested the financial help for repairs. The city received three estimates to reshingle the roof, ranging from $4,643 to $6,400. Each involves the city’s Department of Public Works removing the old shingles and prepping the structure for new shingles at an estimated $500 cost, City Manager Mike Stelmaszek said. The city also would provide $2,000 for labor and materials to the garden club, which would have to document its spending on the project.

The council accepted: A $9,650 bid from St. George Glass of Iron Mountain to replace the front entrance door; $18,000 had been budgeted. A $24,000 bid from Universal Plumbing in Iron Mountain to update a bathroom. The budget had $23,000 for the bathroom, but City Manager Mike Stelmaszek said the project has been in the capital plan for several years.
