Seven Taken to Safety From Guns Island by Portaferry RNLI & Coastguard Teams 5th April 2021 Two Coastguard Rescue officers in water rescue equipment made their way out to the island Portaferry Coastguard Rescue Team was paged on Saturday along with Newcastle Coastguard after a report that seven people were stranded by the tide on Guns Island, off the southeastern County Down coast near Ballyhornan. Two Coastguard Rescue officers in water rescue equipment made their way out to the island to reassure the four adults and two children, but the incoming tide made it impossible to walk ashore, so Portaferry Lifeboat was called, and all seven were taken to safety.

Lough Neagh Rescue Tow Powerless Motor Cruiser Back to Ballyronan Marina 5th April 2021 Lough Neagh Rescue was called last Friday evening to a 24ft cruiser that had lost power. The vessel was located about 1.5 nautical miles to the east of Ballyronan on the west side of Lough Neagh. Lifeboats were launched and located the vessel with two people on both of whom were safe and well. A towline was secured, and the vessel towed into Ballyronan Marina, where it was safely moored to the jetty. The lifeboats returned to base, were cleaned, refuelled and are ready for the next tasking.

Coastguard Teams in Mud & Water Rescue Training in Strangford Lough 1st March 2021 Portaferry and Bangor Coastguard Rescue Teams during Strangford Lough Mud and Water rescue training Credit: Portaferry Coastguard Rescue Team Portaferry Coastguard Rescue team was joined by the Bangor team for joint mud and water rescue training in Strangford Lough on Sunday, 28th February. The Dorn at Ardkeen was the location for the mud training. The word Dorn, from the Gaelic word for narrow channel, refers to the channel which connects several sheltered bays to the Lough near Ardkeen on the eastern side of the Lough. Cook Street Quay in Portaferry town was used for the water rescue training.

Belfast Coastguard Alerted to Car on Portaferry Shore 14th January 2021 The car on the shoreline at Portaferry Road Credit: Portaferry Coastguard Rescue  The Portaferry Coastguard Rescue team was alerted by Belfast Coastguard yesterday to attend the scene of a serious incident when a car had left the Portaferry Road near Newtownards and ended up on the shore. The road which runs from Newtownards at the head of Strangford Lough to Portaferry at the southern end skirts the Lough and was closed for a time. The three occupants were rescued by members of the public before the emergency services arrived and were taken to hospital to be checked out after this serious incident.
