GRAND RAPIDS, MI DTE Energy is working to provide hotel rooms, blankets and space heaters to 530 customers in Northeast Grand Rapids after an equipment malfunction halted their natural gas service Wednesday, Feb. 24.
The malfunction, in the area of Knapp Street NE and Perkins Avenue, was reported in the early evening hours of Wednesday. DTE shut off service in the area to make the repair.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI Two people charged in the late-May riot in Grand Rapids have entered into plead deals.
Byron Castaneda-Divas, 21, pleaded guilty to a riot charge Monday, Feb. 22 and Xavier Pinkley, 25, to the same charge on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Castaneda-Divas admitted that he was with others when someone broke a window at F. David Barney Clothiers, 125 Ottawa Ave. NW and he reached in and took one or more items.
Castaneda-Divas also pleaded no contest to aggravated assault in an unrelated matter in which police say he inappropriately touched a woman who was trying to help him. According to testimony during his plea, Castaneda-Divas was on the floor of a hallway in a Northeast Grand Rapids apartment building and a woman, thinking he was in medical need, attempted to help him.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI Police responded to a report of two people shot in Northeast Grand Rapids about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22.
Grand Rapids officers initially received a report of a shooting in the area of Maude Avenue NE near Spencer Street.
Soon after, police received a report of another shooting victim at an apartment in the 300 block of Carrier Street NE.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â West Michigan businesses are pleading with leaders at the state and federal level to pass a relief package after the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services extended restrictions Friday.
âJust getting a little too tight right now,â said Mike Urbane, owner of Fat Boy. âWrong time of the year to be shutting down.â
Urbane bought Fat Boy 12 years ago after spending his childhood at the Northeast Grand Rapids restaurant.
âWhen we were in high school, we all hung out here,â said Urbane.
