Guwahati: At least 10 persons were injured as a powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted Assam, other northeastern states and adjoining North Bengal, while 10 aftershocks were recorded in the hours after the first quake which shook Sonitpur in northern Assam at 7.51 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the tremors were also felt in North Bengal and other northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Bhutan.

Guwahati, April 28 : At least 10 persons were injured as a powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted Assam, other northeastern states and adjoining North Bengal, while 10 aftershocks were recorded in the hours after the first quake which shook Sonitpur in northern Assam at 7.51 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the tremors were also felt in North Bengal and other northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Bhutan.
As per the disaster management officials in Guwahati, there are reports of damage to buildings, roads and some other infrastructure in different parts of Sonitpur, Tezpur, Nagaon, Morigaon and adjoining areas. Detailed reports are awaited.

With respect to the suicide of Sahib Ali, an employee of NFR (Northeast Frontier Railways), Jalukbari Police on Saturday arrested three other employees of NFR here.
Target for the financial year surpassed by 26.23%, Railways achieves highest-ever scrap sale in 2020-21

GUWAHATI: The NFR (Northeast Frontier Railways) has surpassed its yearly target of earnings from sale of scrap items during the last financial year 2020-21. Sale of scrap is done through e-auction. During this period, the NFR earned Rs 94.64 crore from scrap sale surpassing the target of Rs 75 crore by 26.33%. The Northeast Frontier Railway has also surpassed the previous year s scrap-sale earnings of Rs 87.68 crore by 7.97%. This increase in earnings assumes huge significance considering the COVID-related scenario that prevailed throughout last year.
It may also be mentioned here that, Indian Railways has achieved highest-ever scrap sale in Financial Year 2020-21. Through this sale, the Indian Railways earned total Rs 4573 crore during 2020-21 as compared to Rs 4,333 crore during 2019-20 which is 5.5% higher. The previous best was Rs 4409 cro
