State hires $76,000-a-week consultant to help cash-strapped Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE â Nearly two weeks before the fall semester started at Rhode Island College, officials at the school announced plans to take extraordinary steps to close a $10-million deficit. They said they would reduce operating expenses by 15 percent, which included executive pay cuts, layoffs, and a hiring freeze.

PROVIDENCE â Governor Gina M. Raimondo on Thursday night made it official, acknowledging that she said âyesâ when President-elect Joe Biden asked her to be his Secretary of Commerce.
