Sharidean Flint, Hyde Park City’s first female mayor, died Tuesday after battling brain cancer. She was 62 years old.
The city announced her death on Facebook Wednesday. The North Park Police Department said Hyde Park is grateful for “her guidance and genuine passion to serve others” and that she loved connecting with the people she came in contact with.
During Flint’s time in office, a few of her accomplishments include overseeing the development of 600 South Road and improving the water system with a new reservoir and water lines, according to the Facebook post.
She was also a strong advocate of the police department. Her family requests that instead of flowers, people donate to the North Park Police Department.
A man once accused of attempted arson pleaded guilty on Monday to amended charges in the 1st District Court.
Bryan P. Ash, 57, pleaded guilty to one count of class-A attempted aggravated assault â amended from a second-degree count of attempted aggravated arson â and class-B criminal mischief for incidents that took place in June. Two additional misdemeanors were dismissed.
Ash has been held in jail since June. During the course of the case, Ash has been denied bail as well as access to a jury trial due to COVID-19 restrictions on the court. To date, Ash has been incarcerated for around 235 days.
