Case Dismissed Against Man Once Accused Of Auto Shop Burglary

By Jackson Wilde & The Herald Journal • 6 hours ago A man once charged in 1st District Court with the alleged burglary of a Smithfield auto body shop had his case dismissed on Monday. Ryan Paul Dean, 39, had been charged with third-degree theft and third-degree burglary for an incident alleged to have happened on Dec. 27 and was set to appear for a preliminary hearing on Monday.   During Dean’s appearance, however, Cache County prosecutor Jacob Gordon told the court the alleged victim in the case had moved out of the country and it was unclear if or when he would ever return.

Judge Grants In-Person Sentencing For Man Convicted Of Injuring Four Teens In Logan Canyon Crash

By Jackson Wilde & The Herald Journal • 3 hours ago A man who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a Logan Canyon crash that critically injured four teenagers will be sentenced during an in-person setting this month. Dustin Wesley Andersen, 46, appeared in 1st District Court on Monday for a hearing on whether or not sentencing in his case would take place in-person. Judge Brandon Maynard found exigent circumstances for an in-person sentencing and allowed each victim and Andersen to have two “support people” present during the proceeding.

Wayne Bachmann, 70, was ordered to be held in the Cache County Jail after missing several 1st District Court appearances, having multiple warrants issued for his arrest and refusing to answer the court’s questions on Monday. Bachmann faces one third-degree count of failing to stop at command of police and six misdemeanors and infractions alleged to have happened in September 2019. Documents filed with the court state Cache County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull Bachmann over while operating a vehicle that hadn’t been registered for six years. Deputies wrote they had prior interactions with Bachmann and knew he didn’t have a valid driver’s license. Bachmann was followed by deputies for nearly five blocks before stopping in front of a home in Hyrum; deputies wrote Bachman refused to exit the vehicle, keeping the doors locked and the windows rolled up.
