NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) â The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety is alerting residents of a phone scam.
According to authorities, residents and businesses are being contacted for donations to assist the family of Sgt. Gordon Best.
Best was killed in a crash on New Yearâs Day while responding to a call for service.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - In the first 12 days of 2021, the Grand Strand and Pee Dee lost three law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
The first death came on New Yearâs Day when Sgt. Gordon Best with the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety lost control of his patrol car on the wet roadways of U.S. 17 and crashed into a utility pole. He died on scene.
