Freeland man jailed after threatening to shoot up district court office

An area man threatened Tuesday to “shoot up” the office of Magisterial District Judge Daniel O’Donnell in Butler Twp. and then shoot himself, according to Butler Twp. police. Police said Deathrice Gray, 47, of Route 940, Freeland, called a WNEP-TV employee at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday and ranted about how he had never received money that he was awarded in a court case. He then told the employee that he would “shoot up O’Donnell’s office” and then himself. Police advised O’Donnell of the threatening telephone call. O’Donnell told police that he and his staff were familiar with Gray. Because they believed the threat to be real, the building was evacuated. Court was in session that day, police said.
