Eleanor Slater Hospital CEO removed as questions swirl
PROVIDENCE In the first sign of a shakeup in the top ranks at the state-run Eleanor Slater Hospital, Jennifer White has been removed as interim chief executive officer.
In response to a Journal inquiry, Linda Reilly, spokeswoman for the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, confirmed that: Jen White is no longer the interim CEO of ESH.
White remains chief financial officer assigned to BHDDH, the agency that runs the Eleanor Slater Hospital.
Many questions remain unanswered.
Among them: Why was chief medical officer Brian Daly paid $400,551 last year, including $120,025 in overtime, at the same time BHDDH embarked on a major cost-cutting drive that eventually included the layoff of frontline doctors?

CRANSTON The continuing discharges of Eleanor Slater Hospital patients, many to circumstances relatives and guardians describe as inadequate for their needs, is drawing mounting criticism from disability and mental-health advocates and highlighting, yet again, long-standing deficiencies in a state system that decades ago was hailed as a national leader.
“The state has not invested in the full continuum of behavioral health care, and we are left with a dilapidated, broken, insufficient system,” Laurie-Marie Pisciotta, executive director of the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island, said on Monday in calling for a moratorium on disputed patient discharges.
“The system really needs a redesign from the bottom up, carefully ensuring adequate resources to meet the needs people have now,” James McNulty, executive director of Providence-based Oasis Wellness & Recovery Centers, told The Journal.
