The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) will support the initiative to organize a pilot platform for public-private partnership (PPP) projects for the North’s low-numbered indigenous peoples on the Taimyr Peninsula, Nornickel’s Vice Present on federal and regional programs Andrei Grachev said on Wednesday.

TASS, February 4. The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) plans to cut greenhouse gases’ annual emissions to levels below 10 million tonnes by 2030, the company’s Senior Vice President Andrei Bugrov said on Wednesday at a foresight session with involved parties, which was organized as a part of preparations for the company’s sustainability report for year 2020. In the context of expanding production (the company) will implement a technical upgrade program and will cut the absolute amount of emitting greenhouse gases to the level below 10 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, of carbon dioxide equivalent, he said. The current emission level is about 10 million tonnes - one of the lowest among the world’s mining and metallurgical companies.

The Norilsk Nickel Company in 2021 will make a program to monitor water bodies and soils near the fuel spill in the northern Krasnoyarsk Region, the company’s Senior Vice President Andrei Bugrov said on Wednesday at a foresight session with involved parties, which was organized as a part of preparations for the company’s sustainability report for year 2020. This year, 2021, and further on to 2023, the company plans to make a program to monitor water bodies and soils and to plan revegetation of contaminated soils and shorelines, he said. Along with that work we shall begin the implementation of this plan.
