Chaka Chakaâs WOMan Radio ready to tackle taboo subjects
By Mpiletso Motumi
Johannesburg - WOMan Radio was a concept Yvonne Chaka Chaka came up with in 2016.
In 2018 she researched various ways to bring the project to life and ended up going the online route after getting encouragement from several people, including Communications Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.
âData is not cheap in South Africa, but she (Stella) said my reach is beyond South Africa and I thought that was a great idea. We then launched, I got the licence on IOS and Android.â
The women-led online radio station officially launched in October and this week a billboard was revealed in Joburg South with the help of the Joburg metro.

Legendary singer and actress Yvonne Chaka Chaka has expanded her horizons with the establishment of a women-led online radio station called WOMan Radio.
The multi-award-winning singer, humanitarian, and businesswoman aims to empower women in the media space - employing and exposing the rich, unearthed talent on the continent in programming, producing, engineering, and managerial positions.
The “Giyani: Land of Blood” star says she intends to engage more unexplored content that only the uniqueness of womanhood could reveal in the digital age. Since the launch of the station in October, it has been received well by listeners, most of whom are men.
