Collin West, who was 16 at the time of the incident, was charged as an adult with attempted murder and first-degree home invasion and recently pleaded guilty to the lower charges in Macomb County Circuit Court as part of a plea deal with county prosecutors.
Collin West's lawyer, Jeffery Cojocar, says prosecutors agreed to the plea deal due to “some of the evidentiary and factual weaknesses in their case, and the realistic possibility that Collin could have been acquitted of all charges brought against him."

Collin West is also seeking status under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act in which the convictions will be erased from his public record if he complies with conditions, which could include probation up to prison time.
It appeared the case was going to be resolved last November when the two sides agreed Collin West would attend the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy in Battle Creek for six months after pleading to a lesser charge.
