The Blair Oaks boys wrestling team is getting closer to full strength, and it showed Tuesday night. Blair Oaks won a pair of duals at Blair Oaks High School, defeating Capital City 57-20 and Jefferson City 41-24.
It was a good night on the mats for the Blair Oaks Falcons. After dropping four duals during the weekend in the Missouri Duals, the Falcons responded with three dual wins Tuesday night against Palmyra, Knob Noster and Fatima. The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons also went 3-0 in dual competition.
The Blair Oaks boys wrestling team won’t be at full strength when it begin its season tonight at the Pleasant Hill Tournament. The Falcons likely won’t be at full strength next weekend during the Missouri Duals at Helias either. With seven wrestlers still playing with the Blair Oaks football team and a few more wrestlers suffering preseason injuries, the Falcons will be a little short-handed as they get their season underway.
The Blair Oaks Falcons lost a fumble on their first play from scrimmage Saturday afternoon. They made very few mistakes after that. Blair Oaks scored touchdowns on its next four possessions and the defense never allowed the Lift for Life Hawks inside the red zone. The Falcons continued their undefeated season as they cruised to a 42-0 victory in the Class 2 state quarterfinals at Cardinal Ritter.
The Blair Oaks defense and special teams powered the Falcons to a district championship Friday night. Blair Oaks blocked two punts, returning one for a touchdown, and added a long interception return to set up a short touchdown drive. The Falcons won their ninth district title in the past 11 seasons, routing the St. Francis Borgia Knights 54-14 in the Class 2 District 2 championship game at the Falcon Athletic Complex.
