The Blair Oaks defense and special teams powered the Falcons to a district championship Friday night. Blair Oaks blocked two punts, returning one for a touchdown, and added a long interception return to set up a short touchdown drive. The Falcons won their ninth district title in the past 11 seasons, routing the St. Francis Borgia Knights 54-14 in the Class 2 District 2 championship game at the Falcon Athletic Complex.
Oh, what a difference one year can make. Last season, the Blair Oaks Falcons lost a shootout to the Hallsville Indians. On Friday, the Falcons won in a shutout, and in a rout. The Blair Oaks defense limited Hallsville to 78 yards rushing, more than 200 yards below the Indians’ rushing average per game, and got its revenge in a 55-0 victory in Tri-County Conference play at the Falcon Athletic Complex.
It only took the Blair Oaks Falcons just 4:07 into Friday night’s game to score a touchdown in all three phases. Dylan Hair had a 50-yard rushing touchdown, Bryson Varner had a 31-yard fumble return for a touchdown and Joey Wilde returned a kickoff 60 yards for a score in those opening minutes, propelling the Falcons to a 65-6 Homecoming victory against the Versailles Tigers at the Falcon Athletic Complex.
