Golden Hawks Host Ranked Wildcats in Doubleheaders

It’s a big day on the diamond for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams when they each entertain Durant. The Mid-Prairie baseball team enters action with a 3-0 record, sweeping West Liberty in a doubleheader, and beating Fairfield last week by a combined 30-3 score. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 4 in the first class 2A poll of the season released by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Golden Hawks sport a team batting average of .382 and a team ERA of 0.74. The Hawks are led by Kayden Reinier hitting .636 with seven total hits, six runs scored and five RBI. Alex Bean and Keegan Gingerich are both 1-0 on the mound and have not allowed a run.

Golden Hawks Host Durant

The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team will play it’s third game in four days today when they host the Durant Wildcats. The Golden Hawks are 12-6 on the year, 12-4 in the River Valley, second in the south, after a 59-25 win over West Liberty on Monday where they were led by Carter Harmsen’s 17 points, Aidan Rath with 12 and Alex Bean with 11. On the season, the Hawks are led by Harmsen at 20 points and seven rebounds per game. Jack Pennington has the team lead with five assists and two steals per game. Durant comes into the night with an overall mark of 3-16 after a 65-37 loss at No. 10 West Branch on Saturday. On the season the Wildcats are led by Nolan DeLong at 14 points per game. Garrett Hollenback pulls down a team best seven boards per night to go along with two assists. These two teams met on January 12th of this year with Mid-Prairie winning 70-35 on the Wildcats home floor with Carter Harmsen scoring 19 points, Ethan Kos 16 and Alex Bean 12. The Mid-Prairie girls come in with an overall record of 6-6 on the year after a 55-37 win at Anamosa Saturday where they were led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 23 points and 13 from Myah Lugar. On the season, the Golden Hawks are led by Nonnenmann at 12 points and seven rebounds per game. Amara Jones averages four assists per contest and Lugar three steals per outing. Durant is 3-10 overall. They fell to Cascade Saturday 63-28 despite Hallie Collier’s nine points. On the year, the Wildcats are led by Ally Happ at 15 points per game. She also leads the team with six rebounds and three steals per game. Nicole Brown has a team best two assists per game. These two teams met to open the season with the Hawks winning 40-36.
