How Biden s electric vehicle push can help Tennessee s auto industry

Biden climate push positions Tennessee for electric car boom, but hurdles must be worked out President Biden s $200 billion EV initiative aims to spur a green car boom. But first, rare minerals must be found and mined, electric power plants and battery producers vastly scaled up, recharging networks built. Memphis Commercial Appeal The White House’s new American Jobs Plan proposes spending more than $200 billion in support of electric vehicles powered entirely by batteries recharged from the nation’s electric grid. But the green car ambitions face a stubborn fact the country isn’t ready yet. Before a big electric fleet can run on the roads, rare earth minerals must be found and mined and electric power plants and battery producers vastly scaled up. Analysts say the nation presently lacks the raw minerals, the electric power capacity or the battery production to put millions of electric autos on the road.

Mobilize educators and workers to stop in-person learning in Tennessee!

Mobilize educators and workers to stop in-person learning in Tennessee! The Tennessee Educators Rank-and-File Safety Committee condemns the reopening of Shelby County Schools (SCS) to in-person instruction, even as COVID-19 cases remain at dangerously high levels across Tennessee. SCS serves roughly 111,000 students in the Memphis metro region and is the 25th largest school district in the US. On Monday, March 8, Shelby County Schools completed its deadly reopening process, with grades 6-12 returning to classrooms. Grades Pre-K-5 returned a week before on March 1. Shelby County is the largest, and final, school system in the state to reopen classrooms to students after Republican Governor Bill Lee threatened to withhold school funding from the remaining districts that only offered virtual instruction for students as COVID-19 cases surged this winter. Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) began phasing in face-to-face instruction on January 29.

Mobilize educators and workers across Tennessee to stop school reopenings in Memphis! The Tennessee Educators Rank-and-File Safety Committee denounces the decision of Shelby County Schools (SCS) officials to resume in-person instruction as the deadly COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage throughout the state, the country, and the world. SCS is the largest and final school system in Tennessee to capitulate to Republican Governor Bill Lee’s homicidal mandate to reopen public schools to in-person instruction at all costs. It follows closely on the decision of Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) to begin phasing in face-to-face instruction only weeks ago on January 29.

Stop the deadly reopening of Nashville schools!

Stop the deadly reopening of Nashville schools! Metropolitan Nashville Public School bus The plan to return to in-person learning in the second largest school district in Tennessee was announced by Metro Nashville/Davidson County Schools Director Adrianne Battle on Monday, February 1. By Thursday, students with special needs had returned to their classrooms. The reopening plan is set to move forward at seemingly breakneck speeds with pre-K to fourth grade students scheduled to return to classrooms this Tuesday, February 9. The plan indicates that all grades will be phased in by March 3. Prior to the recent reopening, Davidson County, where Nashville is located, was one of only two counties to keep schools remote throughout the pandemic. Currently, only schools in Memphis/Shelby County are slated to remain remote for the time being.
