St Patrick s Day in Savannah starts with a bang, but wakes up slow

But around 11 a.m., the historic roads weaving in and around City Market weren’t seeing much more foot traffic than a typical Saturday in the spring. On River Street, a group of green-clad revelers would pass the open doors of bars and restaurants here and there, but it was a far cry from the revelry of years gone by. Even Plant Riverside, the newest fixture on the west end of River Street and the location of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration this year, was relatively quiet Saturday morning. COVID has certainly left its mark on Savannah’s biggest holiday. The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade was canceled for the second year in a row, and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee didn’t elect a grand marshal for the first time since World War II.
