ALBUQUERQUE – The Rio Rancho High School baseball team survived a late Piedra Vista rally and advanced to the Class 5A championship game in the state baseball tournament after a 6-5 win Friday afterno.
Rio Rancho High School senior catcher Josh Boyer made sure no third game was needed to decide if visiting Hobbs or his Rams were advancing into the Class 5A state quarterfinals this week.
At Volcano Vista Tuesday, No. 1 Rio Rancho scored four runs in the first inning, with three Rams crossing the plate on two wild pitches from Hawks ace Regan Hall and never looked back, their 11-4 victory extending their winning streak to 15 games.
