ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The first all female-owned spirits company in New Mexico is gaining more and more fans. We started the journey almost four years ago, and we just launched in December, said Nicole Kapnison, the founder and CEO of Nikle Co. So it s only been about five months since our products have been out on shelves.
Their gin hasn t been on the market for long, but it s already a hit locally and worldwide. Last week, their gin won a medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. We really didn t know much about the competition when we submitted, Kapnison said. It was just the soonest one coming up and we just put it out there. We almost missed the deadline.

Calling the Northeast Heights debut of Dutch Bros. Coffee, the Oregon-based drive-through coffee chain, auspicious is an understatement. Lines of cars regularly snake around the building, sometimes extending out onto a busy stretch of Juan Tabo.
While it’s encouraging to see people supporting a new business, I can’t help but think that all that money would be better served going to homegrown operations.
It’s not like there’s a dearth of good coffee shops in town. On the contrary, the city has a thriving coffee scene, one that got an additional boost recently with the opening of Meraki Coffee + Market at Eubank and Juan Tabo NE.

Local restaurateur and bar owner Nicole Kapnison has ventured outside her service industry comfort zone to create spirits.
Kapnison founded Nikle Co. Authentic Spirits with the help of some silent partners.
“Being from the restaurant and bar world, I have always been interested in spirits,” Kapnison said. “I wanted to create something that was natural – free of additives, chemicals and sugars, which the majority of spirits have so much of.”

It was Kapnison goal to create spirits with non-GMO ingredients and keep them at reasonable prices.
