Five people died in Raigad district due to landslides and floods, Nidhi Chaudhary, District Collector, Raigad informed on Friday, as per a report by PTI.

The Maharashtra government on Friday announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to the kin of people who have died in landslides triggered by heavy rains in different parts of the state. A statement from the Chief Minister s Office here said, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who announced the financial assistance, also expressed grief over the loss of lives. The statement said landslides have been reported in ten places - Poladpur (2 incidents) and Mahad (1) talukas of Raigad district, one each in Khed in Ratnagiri district, Mirgaon, Ambeghar, Humbhrali, Dhokwale villages in Patan taluka and Kondvali, Mojhejor villages in Wai taluka of Satara district. The injured will be treated in hospitals at government expense, the statement said, without disclosing their figure.

Despite adverse weather conditions and widespread inundation in affected areas, a total of seven naval rescue teams departed by road for deployment to the Ratnagiri and Raigarh districts on July 22, 2021 from Mumbai, said Indian Navy. Airlift of marooned personnel from Raigarh district is also being undertaken. One Seaking 42C Helo from INS Shikra, Mumbai departed for Rescue at Poladpur/Raigad during early morning hours on Friday.

Landslides in western India kill 5, while floods trap more

NEW DELHI    Landslides and flooding triggered by heavy monsoon rain hit parts of western India, killing more than 100 people, officials and news reports said Friday. More than 1,000 people trapped by floodwaters were rescued. The dead included 54 killed in four landslides in the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts in western Maharashtra state on Thursday and Friday, according to District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary and state government official Sagar Pathak. Many of those who were rescued were stranded on rooftops and even on top of buses on highways, Chaudhary said. Pathak said more than 30 people were missing after the landslides. Advertisement Chaudhary said the rain had slowed, but water levels were rising again because of a high tide Friday. Rescuers, however, have reached the worst-hit areas.

Five people died in Raigad district due to landslides and floods, Nidhi Chaudhary, District Collector, Raigad informed on Friday. She had earlier informed that 15 people have been rescued from the landslides. At least 30 people are still trapped inside, she had said earlier.
