Oakridge superintendent will remain in job, despite complaints

The Oakridge School Board decided Monday night it would uphold the findings of an investigation into Superintendent Reta Doland s job performance, saying she should continue in her job, after calls for her removal from parents and teachers. Board members voiced support of the third-party investigator s conclusion that Doland should remain the district s leader, and called on the community to move forward. However, parents are planning next moves after feeling their concerns have gone unaddressed. Later in the meeting, the board gave its annual summary evaluation of Doland, which was positive, and renewed her contract .  It is the conclusion of the board that although there was substantiation with the complaint as far as the weaknesses in communication  no further deficiencies were found, Board Chair John Weddle read from a statement.  We have asked superintendent Doland to report progress to us. Concerns remain after investigation into Oakridge superintendent

A parent’s formal complaint filed against Oakridge Superintendent Reta Doland in December set in motion an investigation into her job performance  but it also revealed monthslong strife between the district leader and parents and school employees. The complaint, and findings of a subsequent investigation from a third-party consultant released this month, touched on problems that others in the district were concerned about too, including lack of communication. The investigation found the request to remove Doland as superintendent unwarranted, but also found areas of needed improvement. Even still, there’s a 90% vote of no confidence from the teachers’ union and frustrations about how the board is handling the concerns.

Investigation Into Oakridge Superintendent Reports Removal Is Not Warranted

Credit Oakridge School District An inquiry into the Oakridge School District Superintendent has been completed after community members petitioned for her removal. The investigator reports the superintendent’s removal is not warranted. Oakridge parent Nicole Sulick filed a formal complaint in Dec. She claims Superintendent Reta Doland has not provided proper staff working conditions or maintained proper communication, as well as other offenses.    The investigation found that schools in the Oakridge School District have not held regular Site Council meetings over at least the past year. Investigator Rob Saxton said the district, superintendent, and school principals should  immediately oversee the formation of a Site Council at each school. They are also advised to adopt and publish a calendar for meetings, and begin holding them no later than Feb. 19.

Oakridge School District to Investigate Superintendent, Minimal Details Shared on Process

KLCC s Elizabeth Gabriel reports on the investigation into the Oakridge School District s superintendent. The meeting, which was scheduled to start at 6:00pm, was delayed by roughly an hour and a half after the board decided to hold their executive session at the beginning of the meeting instead of afterward. Once the board meeting officially started, school board chair John Weddle announced the delay is because they added an agenda item a motion to approve an investigation into Superintendent Reta Doland. The motion passed unanimously. Weddle then read the board’s policy on an investigation. “If the board decides an investigation is warranted, the board may refer the investigation to a third party,” said Weddle. “That policy also provides that when the investigation is complete, the results will be presented to the board, and the board shall decide within 30 days in open or executive session what action, if any, is warranted.”
