Tributes paid to caring and fantastic nurse and magistrate

Accrington-born Christine McEwan (née Hindle) died on Monday, January 4 2021, aged 71, from Covid-19. Daughter Nicola McCumskay said: I m so proud of her. She has been such a fantastic role model for me and my two children. She was very family orientated, she was always there. She was so caring and always wanted to help others and was always the first one to help. She was a wife, sister, mother, nanna, aunt, cousin, mother in law and friend to lots of people and she will be desperately missed. Born on April 9, 1949, Christine became a cadet nurse in 1965 aged 16 after developing a passion to work in nursing at a young age.

Stuart Arnold MacFarlane: Tributes paid to well-loved Duckworth Hall Inn, Oswaldtwistle landlord

ONE of Oswaldtwistle’s most popular former pub landlords has been laid to rest this week after having died peacefully just after Christmas at the age of 74. Stuart Arnold MacFarlane, known as ‘Mac’, was best known to the community in Oswaldtwistle as a regular sight behind the bar at the Duckworth Hall Inn, on Duckworth Hall and as a loving husband to Rita, father to Julie, Michelle and Katrina and as a doting grandfather, brother, father-in-law and brother in law. Mr MacFarlane ran the venue, affectionately referred to as ‘the Duck’ by regulars, alongside his beloved wife Rita for 14 years, and it was here that he met his best friend Ephram Clarke, who he would enjoy great times visiting Portugal with, even learning to pilot a microlight aircraft while on their trips.
