crews began the pain-staking process of excavating around the well early this morning. richard reid is live on the scene with the latest. this is a very active scene. the police pulled the body out of the well at 4:00 this afternoon. it s about a quarter-mile here behind me. this is an unusual case. nobody can remember a case where a body has been recovered from a well. authorities are trying to see if this is connected to a missing alexandria man. forensic scientists and homicide investigators are digging for answers here. it s shocking. it s an unfortunate situation. a death investigation involving a body at the bottom of a 20-foot well. call, at least. an anonymous call midday thursday led the police to this open field and the house nearby to old fort road. now investigators have descended down to the well. they ll take picture, remove the remain, search the rest of the well for any evidence. police aren t identifying the body or saying how long it s been in
