It may have been only a Week 2 matchup, but Friday night at the Falcon Athletic Complex resembled more of a state playoff game than a typical non-conference contest. The Lutheran North Crusaders made minimal mistakes, scored the game’s first two touchdowns and kept the Blair Oaks Falcons at arm’s length the rest of the way. The Crusaders held on for a 38-30 victory, winning for the first time in four tries against the Falcons.
Ryan Fick had a pretty good idea he would get to 400 career wins at some point this season. But with a large turnover from last year’s roster and a tough strength of schedule, he wasn’t sure how long it would take to get there. A six-game win streak since late December by the Blair Oaks Falcons allowed Fick to reach the milestone Friday night on his home court. “It’s nice to get to that milestone,” Fick said after Blair Oaks’ 80-64 win against the Versailles Tigers in Tri-County Conference play. “It says a lot about our program and the kids that play. I’m happy to be in a great place."
For the first time all season, the Blair Oaks Falcons were trailing at halftime. But just like every game this season, the Falcons were leading as the final seconds ticked on the game clock. Blair Oaks used a strong start on both side of the football after halftime to rally for a 32-27 victory against the Lamar Tigers in the Class 2 state championship game at Faurot Field.

The math added up to a 66-48 victory against the Bobcats in the Class 2 state semifinals.
