WXXV News 25 July 28, 2021 Starting July 30 th, the Harrison County Utility Authority will begin the first part of its two-part project to replace almost 14,000 feet of sewer pipe in Long Beach. The project on the east half of the city, from Nicholson Avenue to South Forest Avenue, will begin by the end of the week while construction on the area west of South Forest to Menge Avenue will start in late August. The over $4 million project, funded by the Restore Act and local funds, will replace an aging concrete sewer transmission main causing constant pipe breaks. John L. Wilson, P.E. with the Harrison County Utility Authority said, “Every time we have a break, we spend from $100,000 to $180,000 to repair it. And when the break happens, of course the sewer goes in the ground and storm drain, into the canals and of course into the bay.”
