Starting July 30
th, the Harrison County Utility Authority will begin the first part of its two-part project to replace almost 14,000 feet of sewer pipe in Long Beach.
The project on the east half of the city, from Nicholson Avenue to South Forest Avenue, will begin by the end of the week while construction on the area west of South Forest to Menge Avenue will start in late August.
The over $4 million project, funded by the Restore Act and local funds, will replace an aging concrete sewer transmission main causing constant pipe breaks. John L. Wilson, P.E. with the Harrison County Utility Authority said, “Every time we have a break, we spend from $100,000 to $180,000 to repair it. And when the break happens, of course the sewer goes in the ground and storm drain, into the canals and of course into the bay.”
In an effort to promote more efficient debris collection around the county, the Harrison County Utility Authority announced that solid waste partner, Pelican Waste and Debris, is adding additional routes to the HCUA service area. DâIBERVILLE, Miss. (WLOX) - Itâs no surprise to have an odor problem at a sewage lift station, but finding raw sewage flowing down a ditch across from your house is cause for alarm.
Lucille Galle has lived across the street from a sewage treatment plant since 1985. In December 2011, the facility on 7th Street in DâIberville was replaced by a lift station.
Not surprisingly, the odor is a problem. According to Galle, things get bad at least a couple of times a week
