When Patricia Fernandez and Cory West tied the knot last year, the newly married American couple didn’t realise they would become the first husband and wife team to compete at the fonaCAB and Nicholl Oils North West 200. Travelling from their Eureka Springs, Arkansas home to Portrush for this year’s event, the pair are racing with the JMcC Roofing squad. Patricia has entered the Supersport, Superstock and Superbike races while Cory makes his debut in the Supertwins events. “Corey says he has saved all the crazy stuff for his wife,” Patricia smiled. Although his new wife is the one with the road racing experience in the family, Cory enjoys an impressive record in bike sport during his 23 year career. FHO RACING BMW MOTORRAD WITHDRAWS FROM THE 2023 NORTH WEST 200 The FHO Racing BMW Motorrad team are withdrawing from the 2023 fonaCAB and Nicholl Oils North West 200 due to no confidence in the application of the Superstock technical regulations. The Superstock class technical regulations mandate the machines must fully comply with conditions regarding the wheels, where Superstock machines must remain with the originally homologated wheels from the manufacturer, which from BMW are carbon. It then goes on to prohibit carbon material, however aftermarket wheels are also not allowed and no mandated alternative specification is prescribed. The FHO Racing BMW M 1000 RR machines passed scrutineering on Tuesday (9 May) and were allowed to take part in all qualifying sessions before being informed they were not allowed to race moments before the Briggs Equipment Superstock race this evening. IRWIN’S SUPERBIKE SPREE IN THE SUNSHINE AT THE 2022 fonaCAB AND NICHOLL OILS NORTH WEST 200 Glorious sunshine saw huge crowds descend upon the north coast on Saturday to watch Glenn Irwin claim a Superbike race double on his Honda Racing Fireblade during the main day of action at this year’s fonaCab and Nicholl Oils North West 200. “I’m in love with the North West 200,” the Carrickfergus rider declared as he extended his superbike winning streak to a record breaking six consecutive wins at the event on the Honda Racing Fireblade with victories in the Anchor Bar and Merrow Hotel and Spa Superbike events. “We are on the limit out there in what was the fastest superbike race ever.” Irwin said after the opening six lapper.
