Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday assured Pakistan’s full support to Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process during his day-long visit to the neighbouring country, the military said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said General Bajwa held meetings with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan Dr Abdullah Abdullah. Matters of mutual interest, current developments in Afghan peace process, enhanced bilateral security and defence cooperation and need for effective border management between the two brotherly countries were discussed. “The COAS reiterated that a peaceful Afghanistan means a peaceful region in general and a peaceful Pakistan in particular. KABUL/RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, in his meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Monday, reaffirmed Pakistan’s support to “Afghan-led-Afghan-owned” peace process based on the mutual consensus of all stakeholders.
A peaceful Afghanistan meant a peaceful region in general and a peaceful Pakistan in particular, said Gen Bajwa, who arrived in Kabul on a day-long visit, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. “We will always support ‘Afghan-led-Afghan-owned’ peace process based on mutual consensus of all stakeholders,” the COAS said. President Ghani appreciated Pakistan’s sincere and positive role in the Afghan peace process.

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The United Kingdom’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has commended Pakistan’s efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Gen. Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter also appreciated Pakistan’s role in advancing peace and stability in the region, especially the Afghan peace process.
Gen. Carter met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa in Kabul on Monday, the army’s media wing said.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said matters of mutual interest and regional security, particularly current developments in the Afghan peace process were discussed.
Also on Monday, Gen. Bajwa met President Ashraf Ghani and promised Pakistan’s continued support for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa has assured the Afghan leadership of Pakistan’s support for “inclusive power-sharing arrangement” and “elections as a right of Afghans to self-determination”, officials said on Monday after the army chief’s daylong visit to Kabul.
Gen Qamar was also accompanied by UK Chief of Defence Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter and Director General of the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed.
The visit came just days after US and other international forces started withdrawing from Afghanistan.
