UK Chief of Defence Staff Calls On General Bajwa UK Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Kabul wherein he paid a day-long official visit on Monday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation particularly current developments in the Afghan peace process, and measures to further enhance bilateral and defense cooperation were discussed. The COAS also offered condolences on the sad demise of the Duke of Edinburgh His Royal Highness Prince Philip and said that the world has lost a highly respected friend.

The media wing of Pakistan’s military did not immediately respond to a request for comment or confirm the visit. According to Reuters, it was not immediately clear what was discussed during the meeting. Neighbouring Pakistan is regarded as a key player in the Afghan peace process. In the past Islamabad has been accused of harbouring the Taliban but in recent years Washington and other Western powers have acknowledged its efforts to push the militant group to take part in peace talks.
