A suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection with the 2010 cold case murder of his wife in St. Paul, Minnesota, authorities said.
Nicholas James Firkus, 38, was arrested more than a decade after he told authorities that an intruder had broken into their home and shot his wife, Heidi Firkus, 25, during a struggle, according to reports.
The St. Paul Police Department SWAT team took Nicholas Firkus into custody on an arrest warrant around 5 a.m. at his home in Mounds View, about 15 miles north of Minneapolis, police said. He was interviewed and booked into the Ramsey County jail on suspicion of murder, according to the department.

The husband of a woman killed in St. Paul in 2010 has been charged with murder in connection to her death.
Nicholas James Firkus, 38, is charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of Heidi Firkus. Today, we re one step closer to getting justice for Heidi, St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said during a press conference Thursday morning.
Nicholas James Firkus was interviewed and booked into Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Axtell credited Sgt. Nicki Sipes for her fresh perspective on the case when she started looking at it 18 months ago. The chief said Sgt. Sipes determination, along with help from the FBI and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, helped lead to this point in the case.
