Locals earn degrees and academic honors (Hong - stock.adobe.com) Print Many area students have recently earned college and graduate degrees plus academic honors from campuses across the United States. Below are students from the Poway and Rancho Bernardo area those whose schools have announced their achievements. Steve Johnson of Poway was among the more than 300 graduates recognized during the virtual commencement ceremony at the University of Kentucky College of Arts & Sciences in December. Johnson received a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree. The campus is in Lexington, Kentucky. Morgan Turpin of the Rancho Bernardo area qualified for the Fall 2020 Dean’s List at Belmont University. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality GPA of 3.5, with no grade below a C. Approximately 55 percent of Belmont’s students qualified for the honor. The campus is in Nashville, Tennessee.

Conshohocken man faces trial on child porn charges

NORRISTOWN — A Conshohocken man must answer to charges in Montgomery County Court that he allegedly possessed child pornography, including sexual-related images of girls under the age of 12. Jorvan Axel Ramos-Martinez, 23, of the 800 block of East Elm Street, was ordered to stand trial, after waiving his preliminary hearing before District Court Judge Deborah Lukens, on multiple charges of possessing child pornography in connection with alleged incidents that occurred in September. Ramos-Martinez remains free on $25,000 unsecured bail while awaiting his next court hearing, a formal arraignment on the charges in county court. After he is formally arraigned next month, a county judge will set a trial date.
