didn t want to make a big news statement about everything that he did, you know. he s just a simple man. reporter: that man that you heard there, he described this community as a community of believers. it is the faith now, their faith that they are leaning on, wolf, at this difficult time. yes, they are. eva, thank you very much. i feel so fortunate that i got to spend some quality time with former president carter back in 2019 when i interviewed him in plains. we covered many, many topics, including some of the issues he was most passionate about during his presidency, issues that are front and center today. here s some of that conversation. when you look at your commitment to human rights, to democracy, to health around the world, to freedom around the world, when you see what s going on around the world, what are you thinking? well, i just have a wish that
nothing in there. yeah, well, that s why investigation really matters. were these people making false representations themselves, or were they simply unwitting agents of someone else who made these false statements? you know, one really key clue in all of this is noticed in the justice department documents in mar-a-lago there s a lot of use of the passive voice. there was something recently un-redacted in that search warrant that talks about, you know, attorney one who i think is believed to be corcoran saying something like i was advised that there were no documents stored in mar-a-lago, et cetera. so who was it who provided the advice? normally good writing is not to use passive voice, right? you re a good journalist, you ve learned that, avoid the passive voice. when it s used, it s because you want to avoid identifying the subject of the sentence. somebody told him that provided that advice, and similarly with regard to the news statement, report being mark meadows.
raping the little girl. then no longer able to pretend that the story wasn t real, that it didn t really happen, republicans pivoted quickly as they are apt to do. they launched a smear campaign against the physician. dr. caitlan bernard, the indiana obgyn who helped this 10-year-old rape victim. indiana s attorney general has now threatened bernard with prosecution, criminal prosecution insinuating without any evidence that the doctor failed to report the 10-year-old s abortion. it turns out, that, too, was a big, fat lie. the allegation wasn t true. the washington post is reporting this today. records obtained by the washington post showed that bernard indeed reported the abortion to the state agencies before the legally mandated deadline to do so. kathleen delaney said in a news statement that bernard is, quote, considering legal action against those who have smeared her including indiana attorney
president. that s true. so bennie thompson told our colleague ryan nobles today that the committee would like to speak to mike sepence, so the question is will mike pence cooperate. we don t know the answer yet but i think it s important to point to the following. there are three people very close to mike pence who are cooperating, his former chief of staff mark short, his former counsel greg jacob, and his former national security adviser keith kellogg. those three people are very close to mike pence. they would not be cooperating with the committee without his blessing. so if i had to guess, i think mike pence will cooperate in some way with the committee. appreciate it. thank you. perspective now from white house chief correspondent kaitlan collins, and andrew mccabe, senior law enforcement analyst, and senior media analyst as well, bill carter. kaitlan, i understand you have a news statement from the former
