Karnataka announces night curfew from Dec 24

The Karnataka government on Wednesday announced a 11 pm – 5 am night curfew in the state from December 24 to January 2 in an effort to ensure that a new strain of Covid-19 discovered in the UK does not spread during the Christmas and New Year period.
The Karnataka government said on Monday that people coming from the UK, Denmark, and the Netherlands by direct or transit flights must be quarantined for 14 days.
Karnataka has also sought passenger manifests for all UK arrivals since December 7 to carry out screening for the coronavirus.
“Those who have come from the UK in the last 14 days must get RT-PCR tests done and be vigilant. Those who are positive must get genetic analysis done at the NIMHANS lab to understand the strain of the virus,” Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said Monday.
“In the past few days we have learnt that in some European countries – UK, Netherlands and Denmark – there is a new mutation of the virus which has been detected. What we know is that it is more contagious than the strain seen earlier in the country,” Sudhakar said.

THE KARNATAKA High Court on Tuesday refused to quash a 2015 corruption case against Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa over an alleged illegal denotification of government land and came down heavily on the state anti-corruption agency Lokayukta police for failing to complete investigations into the case over the past five years.
Yediyurappa had approached the High Court in 2019 with a plea to quash the corruption case taken up by the Lokayukta police in February 2015 based on a private complaint filed in a court in 2013 by one Vasudev Reddy. The complaint was over a decision Yediyurappa took when he was deputy chief minister in 2006 to allegedly release a parcel of government acquired land to private persons.
“When the workers protest peacefully the government and the labour department pay no attention to them. When protests take a severe turn, the workers are called rioters and anti-nationals and the police force is used to file cases against them,” he added.
“After the protests at Wistron took a severe turn Prime Minister Modi called and expressed his concern about incidents – according to chief minister Yediyurappa. The Prime Minister and Chief Minister have not expressed concern over workers rights being trampled. The main cause for the current workers unrest are the anti labor laws of the centre and state,” the letter further said.
