The Costa Mesa City Council Tuesday approved a five-year $480,000 annual contact with the nonprofit Priceless Pets, requiring the group to lease a local facility and open to the public.
A $30,000 monthly temporary agreement will allow the nonprofit to offer adoption and veterinary services, while the city looks for a permanent provider.
City officials will decide Tuesday whether to approve an agreement that would pay Huntington Beach's Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center $57,000 annually roughly $125 per wild animal that comes in from Costa Mesa for treatment.
The nonprofit Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach treats up to 7,000 wild animals each year and receives funds from the county and many cities. But Costa Mesa, despite frequent use, is a holdout.
