Cleanup continues with crews and contractors clearing the derailed cars, inspecting the track and repairing the rail line, Jeff DeGraff said in an email. The work was expected to take most of the day and into the evening.
The train derailed Monday afternoon at Stillhouse Road in Newberry Township, near the Susquehanna River. No one was injured.
Some 33 cars overturned, and one spilled PVC plastic pellets. Several Hazmat crews responded to the scene because several of the cars displayed a Hazmat placard. No one was evacuated.
The investigation into the cause was started immediately with the collection and preservation of information and evidence, DeGraff said. It will take some time to determine what happened, and a report will be submitted to the Federal Railroad Administration, which is standard protocol.
